In the travel blogger community amongst other scenarios such as social media culture and the likes, the essence of travel can often get lost in the process of wanting to document everything and to a certain extent show off a bit. Travel bloggers can perhaps be forgiven because often as a travel blogger you’re operating a lifestyle business, of which the value is centered on the content you produce.
Whatever kind of traveler you may be however, it can become very easy to find yourself focusing on those elements of each trip you take which don’t really matter. I’ve heard one particular story all too often about how a certain self-proclaimed travel blogger from Japan took up accommodation in a hostel in Singapore, which in itself is nothing out of the ordinary, except this bloke spent the whole time while he was there on his bed, busy working away on his laptop. And I mean THE ENTIRE TIME!
Where’s the fun in that? It would be okay if he had explicitly stated that he was on a business trip and that he perhaps just wanted to go somewhere where he could focus, but insider knowledge doing the rounds suggests that he passes off as a travel blogger.
Okay, that’s enough negativity – we should rather talk about it from the point of view of what you can do as a traveler (even as a budding travel blogger) to ensure you never lose touch of the essence of travel. It doesn’t take much really and is only a matter of looking towards what constitutes the full complement of local services you consume in order to functionally live your regular life.
All you need to do is make sure you can access all the services you’d want to have access to back home, which is the fundamental set of building blocks for living comfortably enough.
I swear, there’s nothing more to it than just having the peace of mind of knowing where to go if you need to go to the bathroom, being able to have a hot shower (if you’re not in a particularly hot destination), being able to get your fill to your heart’s desire and being able to get around freely. Basically in order to make sure you have a good time as a traveler exploring some destination in a faraway place, your regular life elements need to be in order and anything you need for your basic survival should be within reach.
It’s as simple and straight forward as being able to solicit the services of a criminal defense attorney in Houston if that is indeed where you find yourself and if the need arises.
Take care of the basics and you will never again suffer the effects of missing the essence of why you travel, which is fundamentally to experience life as it exists in places that are different to the place you call home. Just look at your regular life and make a list of all the services you need and then cover those with their local equivalents wherever it is you’re visiting.
