Brunch Like an Italian: What You Need to Eat


If you love eating brunch, read this post and we’ll share with you some of the foods that you have to eat to do it like the Italians. The next time you visit the best restaurants NoMad for brunch, these are some of the foods that you have to order for a filling and hearty meal. Take note, however, that brunch is not an actual part of the meal structures in Italy. But since brunch is a big thing in New York, brunch is offered in many Italian restaurants.

Ricotta Pancakes 

Ricotta refers to a type of whey cheese that is derived from a variety of sources, such as goat, cow, or sheep. It can be incorporated in different recipes in many ways, but one that you will love the most is its use in pancakes. I first tried it in Scarpetta, an Italian restaurant in New York City. Since then, it became one of my favorite items in their brunch menu and even attempted to recreate it at home.

Avocado Toast 

For something that is healthy and hearty to start a day, an avocado toast will be a fool-proof choice for brunch. To make it truly Italian, many choose to incorporate it in a bruschetta. Simply put, a bruschetta is a toasted Italian bread that is rubbed with garlic and olive oil. To make it flavorful, top it with avocado. Mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil can also be added, which will make it not a just a simple avocado toast, but a caprese avocado toast.

Poached Egg 

This is a popular brunch menu in global cuisines, not just for the Italians. To give the poached eggs an Italian twist, go for Uova all’Amatriciana, or simply spicy poached eggs. It is smothered in cherry tomato sauce, providing it with a more robust flavor compared to traditional poached eggs. It also has red onions and pancetta to enhance the taste. This is an inventive dish that you can also make at home, in case it is not offered in your favorite Italian restaurant.

Italian Salad 

For something that is healthy, you can never go wrong with a salad. While salad is a staple in many cuisines, if you want to give your salad an Italian flare, there are some ingredients that you need to add. A homemade Italian dressing is one of the must-haves when preparing the salad. You can make it with the use of basic ingredients, such as olive oil, oregano, basil, and red pepper. The salad itself, on the other hand, can include lettuce, bell peppers, olives, onions, tomatoes, and anchovies, among others.


If you love egg, you will love frittata. This is an egg-based dish, which resembles an omelet. It is from the Italian word frigerre, which means fried in English, a reference to how the food is prepared. This is well-loved by many because of its unique texture and the endless possibilities when it comes to what you can fill it with.
