Bug Out Bag

  • The Bug Out Bag is for fast exit in case of disaster.  It should contain the things you will need to survive under any circumstances and it should be light enough to carry, if you are on foot.  Each member of your household should have their own bag. (Rotate items that expire.)
     

  • Small water filter bottle. (Fill it before you depart if you have time.)

  • Military type mess kit.

  • Dehydrated and/or freeze dried food packets. (At least enough for three days)

  • Change of clothes suitable to weather conditions and being outdoors.

  • Pair of hiking shoes.

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste.

  • Comb and/or brush.

  • Bar of Soap and mini shampoo.

  • Toilet paper & mini pack of Kleenex.

  • Flashlight and extra batteries.

  • Matches and lighter, plastic bag or case to keep them dry.

  • Small can of lighter fluid.

  • Hunting knife and pocket knife.

  • Small Hatchet.

  • Fishing line and hooks or porta rod.

  • Rope

  • Towel and washcloth.

  • Alcohol hand wipe packets.

  • Hand gun and bullets.

  • ID documents.

  • Cash, and some silver coin.

  • Military nylon poncho. (Excellent blanket for all temperatures and light weight.)

  • Light weight rain coat in bag type.

  • Light weight plastic tarp for shelter.

  • Medicines that you are taking.

 
 

 
 
  • Medical Kit,

    • Alcohol wipes

    • Betadine wipes (Iodine)

    • Regular thread.

    • Suture thread.

    • Regular sewing needle.

    • Curved suture needle for sewing flesh.

    • Band-Aids.

    • Gauze.

    • Tube of Superglue.

    • Tube of Neosporin.

    • Aspirin or Advil.

    • Potassium Iodine tablets. (For radiation exposure.)

    • Other items you might need.

  • Solar Emergency Radio.

  • Grab your rifle or shotgun on the way out the door if you can and don't forget the bullets.

Backpack

  • If you have a good backpack with a frame, you can carry more weight, otherwise it is carrying your bug out pack on your back.  With a frame back, backpack you can add extra amounts of food, a one man popup tent and a sleeping bag and a few other things that you might wish to take along.  You can strap your bug out bag to the bottom of it and now you have a whole backpack that you can fill up.  Just keep it as lightweight as possible for your size and strength and add a small lantern to the list above.
