Cats for the Homestead

Every Homestead needs a couple of barn cats to keep away the field mice and other little critters that can get in your grain bins, and chew up anything that might serve as food or materials for their nests.  These little critters can do some serious damage.

You don’t want a cat that has been someone’s pet in a house. You will want what is referred to as a Feral Cat. These types of cat are mostly wild and you probably won’t see them much, but they are usually around somewhere doing their job.

Check out these links and they will tell you what you need in a Feral Cat.

Read these websites and find out about these cats. You may have a neighbor who would like to get rid of one or two of his cats. Make sure though, if someone gives you a cat that it was theirs and not a house pet. These cats will not make a good barn or yard cat.
